Wellington is having a number of events this week to celebrate entrepreneurship as a career path and foster this spirit amongst the business community. Mike and I went along to Wellington to the World on Tuesday evening and listened to some inspired and inspirational people, including Richard MacManus of ReadWriteWeb. We particularly agreed with his point about business being about the culture and not about the tools!
One of the highlights for me however was seeing some of Wellington’s up and coming starsĀ andĀ hearing their 7 minute pitch. In no particular order:
Indigo Renderer - Awesome tool for graphics professionals. From their own website: “Indigo is a photorealistic renderer which simulates the physics of light to achieve near-perfect image realism. Incorporating an advanced physical camera model, a super-realistic materials system and the ability to simulate extremely complex lighting situations through Metropolis Light Transport, Indigo Renderer is capable of producing the highest levels of realism demanded by architectural and product visualisation.” In short – it was over my head but the images produced by it were incredible!
Yonix – Really interesting looking tool for capturing business requirements for development, and I look forward to seeing this more in the future with interest.
Kids++ Anything that looks to make computers a better, safer and more interesting learning tool for kids is OK by us! Very interested to see this working now and see where it goes!
Beetil Finally – Dan from Beetil did a presentation of their SaaS tool to take the pain out of service management – really impressive and great to see the potential opportunities here.
Its really good to see all the local companies coming up with such awesome products and wish them well – Bravo
